Local Caches

Posted by teamharpo on May 28, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Team Harpo is out for some local caches on this Holiday weekend. We were doing a bunch of different things and finally had a chande to look for some geocaches.

Here are the caches we found and the logs:

Old Wesbury Pond

Team Harpo found this on Memorial Day 2012. We were out for a while and decided to look for a few caches while doing some errands. This was larger than we thought it was going to be . . . Thanks for the cache, cheers.

#3-We all Scream for Ice Cream

Team Harpo found this one heading home on Memorial Day 2012 to get to a BBQ. We were running some errands and decided to pick this one up. Very busy location and many cars parking where we parked. We waited for those people to get out and move along before we were able to retrieve the container. We signed the log and placed it back. Thanks for the cache, cheers!

#4-Let's Play Ball!

Team Harpo looked for this one 2 other times. One time it was before the hurricane and this was disabled for a short time. The next there were too many people around and a NCPD car across the street that wouldn't move. So finally today, Memorial Day 2012, we took a shot and located the container very quickly. We signed the log and placed it back. Thanks for the cache, cheers!

Washington DC

Posted by teamharpo on May 19, 2012 at 10:35 PM

We went down for the weekend and since we were here, we visited some of the monuments and also we tried for a couple virtual geocaches.  Most of the geocaches in the National Mall are virtual and need a response from the cache owner to get credit.  We walked from the hotel and all the way to the Lincoln Memorial.

We had a great time here and here are the logs for the geocaches that we found.

I can see Lincoln

Team Harpo was visiting DC for the AIA convention and headed to the Mall to view the memorials. We located this one and have been here before but didn't log the geocache that time. We are sending the information today (a week later) to get confirmation that we found it. Thanks for the cache and happy Memorial Day!

Trip to Ohio

Posted by teamharpo on May 5, 2012 at 11:25 PM

We set out on a road trip to see the family and do some sightseeing in Pennsylvania and Ohio.  We had planned a trip to California but unforeseen circumstances prevented us from going on that trip so instead we switched plans and drove to Ohio on a visit to family.  We make a stop at Hershey to go through the “factory” and learn a lot about the man who started it all.  What an interesting story and the history of the chocolate candies we all know and love here in the United States.  Hershey even started a school for the “orphans” which has grown from under 30 students to well over 1000.  It is a resident school where the students live in a house with adults to maintain a family atmosphere for all the children.  It is really quite extraordinary.

After this visit we head off to Ohio the next day to pick up daughter and then head up to Lake Erie for a visit to Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island.  We have never been there and it is a new experience for all of us.  We learn some history about the island at the monument located here called the International War Memorial commemorating one of the more significant battles during the War of 1812, the Battle of Lake Erie.

While on our travels we find a few caches along the way and here are the logs for the Geocahes we found:

Weekend in Camden, NJ

Posted by teamharpo on April 28, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Team Harpo went to Camden, NJ for the weekend with our Boy Scout troop.  We visited the aquarium and stayed overnight on the Battleship New Jersey.  We toured the aquarium in the morning and headed off to the ship.  The troop stayed the night after touring the ship with the volunteers and we learned about the history of this great ship.  All the volunteers were very good describing the ship and the functions of the spaces we went through.  Soon it was time to go to sleep and we each had a bunk in the spaces below the main deck. The next morning we were up and fed and the three Geocaching teams stayed behind to grab a few more caches before heading back to NY.

Here are the logs of the Geocaches we found:

Crossing the Banks of the Nile

Team Harpo is visiting the Aquarium with the Troop and sleeping on the USS New Jersey next door. We had everyone looking for this. We found it and signed the log. We put it back for the other teams with us that didn't find it.

Thanks for the cache, cheers.

Tax Day Caching

Posted by teamharpo on April 15, 2012 at 11:25 PM

We paid our taxes before the dreaded date so we are out looking for other treasures.  We head out with our wonderful dog for a walk in the Smith Haven County Park, hoping Trinity doesn’t come across too many other dogs that she will bark at.  We take a route that will garner the most geocaches while we are here and make the most of our time.  It is a good day with good weather and Trinity is having a great time with us.

Here are the logs of the caches we found:

Travel Shelter

Team Harpo headed to the park with our dog to look for some caches. This is the second time we have been in the park. We found this one not far from the parking area, no TBs though, ;-( This is our 920th find and 1 of 12 on the day. Thanks for the cache, cheers.

All the Tired Horses

Team Harpo headed to the park with our dog to look for some caches. The last time we were here the stables were not being used. We think they should change the signs along the road as well stating there are stables here. They won't last long if the renovation doesn't start. As we were signing the log a car drove right by us, it sort of crept up on us since it was going so slow. This is our 924th find and 5 of 12 on the day. Thanks for the cache, cheers.

BRS-15 Missing Hiker!!

Team Harpo headed to the park with our dog to look for some caches. We passed this one earlier today because the GPSr failed to upload the caches for this area. We had some caches located 26 miles away on the GPSr but that wasn't going to help. So thanks to technology we used a phone app to find the geocaches and entered the coordinates into the GPSr. Sol we did find this one after we made a lap around the model train in the woods. This is our 926th find and 7 of 12 on the day. Thanks for the cache, cheers.

Chronicles of Narnia - Reepicheep

Team Harpo found this one after we were in the Smith Haven County Park for a few hours. For such a short road it did have a lot of traffic. LLKD-116 Pine Trail Nature Preserve

Team Harpo found this one after we were in the Smith Haven County Park for a few hours. We headed up this way and saw where the brush fires were along the Wading River Manor Road. The new batteries brought us right back to the same place. We looked some more and finally located the cache. This is our 929th find and 10 of 12 on the day. Thanks for the cache, cheers.
